The City of Joburg Council has elected the new Chairperson for Transport Committee Cllr Nontokozo Shezi  (ANC); and the Chairperson for GEYODI (Gender, Youth and People with Disabilities) Committee Cllr Kedibone Lekgetho (ANC).

The two councillors were elected unopposed following their nominations which they accepted at an Extra-ordinary Council meeting, which was held on Thursday, 29 July 2021. The meeting and elections were held virtually through Microsoft teams (Hybrid) in line with Adjusted Level 3 regulations as gazetted in Gazette 44895 of 25 July 2021

The Speaker of Council Cllr Nonceba Molwele said the elections were held in terms of Rule 24 of the Standing Rules and Orders of Council.

Preceding to the elections of new Chairpersons, the Speaker in terms of Rule 16 of the Standing Rules and Orders of Council, welcomed new PR Councillors who were sworn-in replacing those councillors who passed away. The following councillors were sworn-in: Cllr Kgoerano Kekana (ANC), Cllr Piet Tsotetsi (DA) and Cllr Mandisa Soziwe Mafuna (ANC).
