The City of Joburg's Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Health and Social Development, Cllr Eunice Mgcina has tested positive for Covid-19.
Cllr Mgcina received her results yesterday after she experienced a couple of days of not being well.
Cllr Mgcina said yesterday’s results had been a second test after an initial test had come back negative.
She has since urged all people who might have been in contact with her over the last few days to isolate or quarantine in their homes and ensure that they remain indoors and minimize contact with other people.
"I wish to make an impassioned plea to our residents to take this third wave that we are experiencing very seriously. Our health systems and facilities have begun feeling the strain and I urge all residents to assist us with heeding calls to wear masks at all times, wash hands or sanitise regularly and observe social distancing at all times," said Cllr Mgcina.
Cllr Mgcina added that she, together with staff members in her office would begin a 4-day isolation period after which they would undergo further testing.
She further wished all Covid-19 patients across the city well, including the Executive Mayor, Cllr Geoffrey Makhubo, and the Chief Whip of the City’s Council, Cllr Solly Mogase.
