Twelve suspects (7 males and 5 females) are expected to appear in the Jeppestown Magistrates Court today. The suspects were arrested in the early hours of this morning at a hijacked property in Fairview.
They will be charged for trespassing and contempt of court.
It is alleged that the property was recently hijacked by a number of people who forcefully took occupation and control of the property.
The owners then approached the High Court where an eviction order was granted and was executed on 18th May 2021. The eviction was executed and security personnel were hired to guard the property. However, the suspects attacked the security personnel and forcefully moved back into the property later that day.
The matter was then reported to the Jeppestown South African Police Service (Saps) and to the City’s Group Forensic and Investigation Service (GFIS) for investigation. A sting operation was then conducted in the early hours of this morning by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) undercover unit working together with GFIS.
The property was handed over to the rightful owner.
