The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Geoffrey Makhubo together with Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) of Health and Social Development, Cllr Eunice Mgcina will launch the City's Local Drug Action Committee.
The committee will consist of representatives from Correctional services, SAPS, the education sector, the business sector, legal professionals and the City’s health department. They will be responsible for compiling an action plan to combat substance abuse in the City of Joburg. This they will do in cooperation with the provincial government.
Fighting substance abuse, Gender-Based Violence and Femicide have been pronounced as key priority programmes of Mayor Makhubo’s Mayoral term. The aim is to improve public safety through the management of community health, social, environmental, public and human settlements. The City of Joburg has undertaken to confront the challenges of substance abuse as a metropolitan local government fully aware of the complex position it occupies, by launching the Local Drug Action Committee.

The programme for the day will unfold as follows:
Part 01: Formal launch of the City’s Local Drug Action Committee by the Executive Mayor Cllr Geoffrey Makhubo.
Part 02: Service Delivery Stakeholder Engagement with affected communities in the Inner City, Rosettenville, Vrededorp and Hillbrow areas.
