The City of Johannesburg will be holding the inaugural sitting of Council for the 2021-2026 term of office on 16 and 17 November 2021.
 
Acting City Manager Floyd Brink will be the presiding officer over the swearing in of the 270 councillors and the election of Speaker of Council who will thereafter preside over the election of the Executive Mayor and Chief Whip of Council.
 
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will preside over the election of office bearers on the first sitting.
 
NB. IN TERMS OF THE STANDING RULES AND ORDERS OF COUNCIL, KINDLY NOTE;
 
40 (1)     When Council is in session, use of photographic equipment, recording devices and other multimedia devices and gadgets including but not limited to cameras, cellular phones and tablets is prohibited, unless with the prior authorization of the Presiding Officer. Laptops, tablets and other gadgets may only be used on silent mode, while maintaining Council decorum, only for the purpose of the meeting and in line with applicable legislation.
40A (1)     When attending a Council or a Committee meeting, members of the public, including the media, must be dressed appropriately and must not wear any political party gear, symbols and/or insignia.

The Council meeting will be held as follows:

Date: Tuesday 16 November and Wednesday 17 November 2021
Time: 10h00 on both days
Venue: Brixton Multipurpose Centre, Corner High and Mercury Street, Brixton (near Brixton SAPS)

NB: It is critical to RSVP before end of business on Monday to allow for proper arrangements. RSVP’s can be sent to DuduLu@joburg.org.za. Accreditation will be issued on the day.
