The City of Joburg’s 0860 Call Centre is unable to service customers due to cable theft which has interrupted the City’s telephony system.
According to Finance MMC, Cllr. Matshidiso Mfikoe, “Vandalism and theft of the City’s infrastructure is plaguing our communities with far reaching consequences. Residents make use of the call centre to log service delivery faults, query bills – but most importantly the emergency call centre services people’s calls for ambulances and fire-engines.
This act is tantamount to sabotage, disempowering those who find themselves in a crisis. I urge people to help us combat this criminality. Be vigilant, protect the infrastructure, - it’s yours. Please report theft and vandalism”.
Residents and ratepayers can email whistle@joburg.org.za
MMC Mfikoe has indicated that technicians will work around the clock to reinstate the service. The City advises customers to make use of alternative channels.
