The public can still comment on the City's Spatial Development Framework (SDF) review. The SDF was advertised for public comment on the 22 December 2021, with the closing date for public comment being 22 April 2022.
The deadline has been extended to 11 May 2022 to solicit more comments from residents and other stakeholders.
The Johannesburg Spatial Development Framework 2040 (SDF) was adopted in 2016, and the city is currently reviewing it. The Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act 16 of 2013, commonly referred to as SPLUMA, requires that municipalities update their SDF's every five years. The current SDF aims to address the spatial inequalities and job – housing mismatch in the City of Joburg.
As part of the public participation process, the City will hold several sessions regionally with the public. The city welcomes all our residents to participate in these sessions as comments from the public made in these sessions will be integrated into the review process.
The MMC for Development Planning, Cllr Belinda Echeozonjoku, reiterated that “the City is committed to being an Inclusive City and bringing the SDF review process to the residents of Joburg so that they can be part of the City's efforts in shaping the spatial landscape of the city in an orderly manner".
“We have already had engagements with our councillors on the SDF review process, now it is time to engage with the residents of the city. We hope that public input into this process will assist in strengthening the City's transformation agenda."
The proposed dates and times for the SDF regional sessions are as follow:
