Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Safety in the City of Johannesburg Councillor David Tembe has visited Pimville, Soweto, yesterday afternoon to offer condolences to the wife, children and family of the slain Mr Kgomotso Diale.
Mr Diale was shot and killed on Monday at the Chicken Farm informal settlement after he had joined members of the community when they went to the settlement to enquire about the recent theft of power cables.
Councillor Tembe expressed sadness at the loss of life of Mr Diale and has promised to support the family as they grapple with the loss of a loved one, especially under the circumstances in which he left this world. He promised the family that he will work with SAPS to ensure that the murderers are brought to book and face the full might of the law.
MMC Tembe was accompanied by Acting JMPD Chief Maxwell Khanyile and JMPD Senior Management. He ordered them to deploy addition resources to ensure police visibility around the area and intensify the fight against cable theft.
“The Public Safety Department is doing all in its power to ensure that the thieves who steal government property are brought to book. We are working with SAPS towards the establishment of a specialised infrastructure protection unit, which will focus among others on cable theft and scrap metals. The specialised unit will be announced and launched within the next two to three weeks," MMC Tembe said.
To combat the scourge of vandalism and theft of government infrastructure MMC Tembe is urging all local and provincial law enforcement authorities to work together and involve the communities in the investigations.
