I am pleased to officially welcome Mr Junior Nkosinathi Baloyi CA (SA) as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the Joburg Market (JM).
The largest fresh produce market in South Africa, the Joburg Market is a Department of Economic Development entity. Its produce feeds millions of families in sub-Saharan Africa and the world at large.
At its December meeting, the Mayoral Committee of the City of Johannesburg resolved to concur with the decision of the JM Board of Directors, effectively finalising Baloyi’s appointment.
I am confident that with Baloyi’s appointment, the Joburg Market will be one step closer towards executive stability as this position has been held by acting incumbents for over two years.
It is critical that such senior-level appointments be occupied by suitably qualified persons to ensure the mandate of the government of the day, the Multi-Party Coalition Government, is executed without delay and that the residents of Johannesburg can be properly served.
As political leaders, we empower the administration to function optimally by enabling the appointment of professionals of high esteem and regard. To that end, a qualified chartered accountant, Baloyi holds a BCom accounting honours from the University of Johannesburg.
He has over 10 years of experience in the public sector, six of which have been in senior executive positions.
He has previously served as the Acting CFO for the Metro Trading Company from January to September 2018, thereafter he served as the Director for Finance: Core Accounting before joining the JM as the Acting CFO in April 2022.
As the Political Principal responsible for the portfolio, I once more officially welcome Baloyi to the Joburg Market and wish him all the very best in the execution of his weighty responsibilities.
