The MMC for Development Planning, Cllr Belinda Echeozonjoku, will, at 09h00 on Wednesday, 19 January 2022, partake in the accelerated service delivery (ASD) clean-up operation in Bramley Gardens, Ward 74.

The campaign is a City-wide programme that is aimed at addressing basic service delivery challenges through area-specific oversight inspections conducted by City leaders and officials, in an effort to provide feedback to residents.

Service delivery issues to be addressed include road markings, blocked or damaged kerb inlets, faded road markings, grass cutting and weed removal, potholes, litter picking, missing valve covers, and exposed wires on streetlights; to name a few.

At 10h30, Cllr Echeozonjoku will be joined by the incumbent MMC for Transport, Cllr Funzela Ngobeni, officials from CRUM Region E, Joburg Roads Agency, and concerned residents, to conduct a site visit of Pretoria Street Bridge, near Hilson Street, Highlands North, Ward 74.

The bridge, a Johannesburg heritage site, is said to be on the brink of collapse due to heavy rains and years of neglect. In addition to the concerns raised on the deterioration of the bridge, is the environmental impact a collapse will have on the river below.

Preventing any further damage and protecting the structural integrity of the road and bridge will not only save the road, but also prevent any possible minor or fatal injuries to pedestrians and motorists who use that road.

The operation will begin at 09h00 and the meeting place is Midways Mall Shopping Centre (by the Pick 'n Pay), Cnr Corlett Drive and Helen Road.
