​The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Mpho Phalatse, will on Wednesday, 19 January 2022, lead a delegation of City officials to inspect the Goudkoppies Landfill Site.

She will be accompanied by the MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services, Cllr Michael Sun and the MMC for Public Safety, Cllr David Tembe.

The Goudkoppies Landfill Site was the scene of a gruesome attack that saw unknown gunmen shoot dead five security guards last week and critically injured two others, including a recently in-sourced security personnel employed by the City.

The visit is intended to assess the landfill site as well as to identify security gaps that need urgent attention. The Executive Mayor, MMC Sun and MMC Tembe will also have an opportunity to explore proposed interventions to tighten up security and protect lives.
