The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development, Councillor Nkululeko Mbundu has, today, written to the Speaker of Council, Cllr Vasco Da Gama, to make his formal submission on the allegations of interference in procurement processes and intimidation that have been brought against him.
The comprehensive 32-page report seeks to inform the Speaker on the facts relating to the Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication and the MMC’s role and legislative authority to ensure effective oversight and, further, that the City’s resources are used sustainably and for the purposes intended.
Out of respect for this process, and to allow the Speaker to acquaint himself of the facts, we will not be making any further public comments at this stage in accordance with what is in the best interests of the residents of Johannesburg.
MMC Mbundu reaffirms his commitment to the highest standards of transparency & accountability and is hopeful that the matter will be thoroughly investigated, and an outcome reached without delay.
We will not waiver in our commitment to rid the City of corruption, maladministration and wasteful expenditure.
