Words rarely seem sufficient to comfort a family, organisation and a city from the pain of the death of an experienced, knowledgeable, intensely passionate civil servant.
As Chair of Chairs of the City of Joburg, Cllr Colleen Makhubele and a resident of the metro, I have known Cllr Mpho Moerane as a loyal, hard-working and conscientious politician whose contribution was greatly valued.
I will remember Cllr Mpho Moerane as a fierce, passionate political juggernaut, standing up for the African National Congress’ policies while always demanding the very best from the entire council irrespective of the political differences.
He has been a fantastic political opponent and a brother that I respected ernomously. I truly believe that given time, our work together in the Joburg Council, albeit on different sides of the council chambers, would have made a massive difference to the people of Joburg due to his passionate drive and ethos to put people first.
We will miss him greatly and our city will be not be the same without his contagious laughter and warm smile. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this very sad time.
Our words cannot take away the pain of loss, but we hope the Moerane family and the ANC Joburg Caucus will find solace in knowing that he dedicated his life to serve The City of Joburg and we will continue in his legacy.
We convey our deepest condolences.
ISSUED BY THE CHAIR OF CHAIRS, CLLR COLLEEN MAKHUBELE AND THE CONGRESS OF THE PEOPLE (COPE) CAUCUS LEADER IN THE CITY OF JOHANNESBURG
