After several outages, water has been restored to the suburbs of Vrededorp and Jan Hofmeyr.
Joburg Water technicians worked tirelessly to identify the valve fault that led to the outage which was initially caused by a trip at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station last week.
“I’m delighted that water has been restored to Jan Hofmeyr and Vrededorp,” said MMC for Environment & Infrastructure Services Department (EISD) Cllr. Michael Sun said.
“I salute the diligence of Joburg Water technicians and the patience of residents.”
Joburg Water reservoirs fed by Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station - namely Crosby, Hursthill & Brixton - are severely disrupted by any stoppage in flow. Even a delay of a few hours can cause massive issues which can take several days to resolve.
“Joburg Water will be exploring all options to sustainably solve this and other stubborn problems in Johannesburg’s water network for the long term,” Cllr. Sun said.
In this regard Joburg Water technical teams are working day and night to deal with snags at the recently opened Lenasia High Level Reservoir.
“After opening the reservoir in June residents of Lenasia continue to suffer outages at an alarming rate,” Cllr. Sun said.
“This is unacceptable and we will ensure that all efforts are made to speedily resolve or snags and ensure residents enjoy the benefits of this new infrastructure as a matter of urgency.”
