The City of Johannesburg is counting down the days to the start of the 15th BRICS Summit to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre from Tuesday, 22 August 2023 – Thursday, 24 August 2023.
The city is proud to host such a prestigious global gathering within its boundaries and preparations are nearing conclusion for hosting a successful and safe summit.
The 2023 BRICS Summit is the fifteenth annual BRICS summit, an international relations conference attended by the heads of state or heads of government of the five member states: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
As already announced through a mutual agreement, President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation will not attend the Summit, but the Russian Federation will be represented by Foreign Minister, Mr Sergey Lavrov.
The City has worked tirelessly with other law enforcement bodies from National and Provincial government to beef up the security plan for the Summit.

Despite the inconvenience caused by hosting events of this magnitude, there are several positive spinoffs. The Summit will foster economic growth, promote collaboration, attract investment, and showcase opportunities within the City of Joburg, Gauteng Province and South Africa at large.
Hosting the BRICS summit in Joburg affirms the City as a world-class destination with world-class infrastructure. The City's reputation as a dynamic host city of global conferences, exhibitions and sporting events is strengthening a positive impression about its resources, infrastructure and human resource capabilities.
We urge all Joburg citizens to warmly welcome our international guests as they have always done during other major international events and gatherings.
