​From tomorrow until 25 June, you'll have a chance to tell the City of Johannesburg's rapid bus transport system, Rea Vaya, what you think of its service.

Share your experience of riding a Rea Vaya bus by chatting to facilitators who'll be in the bus to solicit your views of the service.

Survey facilitators, who will be wearing Rea Vaya apparel, will ask you 10 short questions that range from ride experience, bus and station cleanliness to punctuality. The facilitators will interact with you at stations and inside buses. The sessions will be conducted in the morning during peak, during lunch hour and in the evenings.

 “The survey seeks to gauge commuters' satisfaction levels and improve operations so that we can enhance the quality of life of the City's residents," says Benny Makgoga, Transport Department's Services Promotions Director.

Rea Vaya wants to interact with about 6 000 commuters, who represent 10% of the 60 000 passengers who use the rapid bus transport system annually.

Some of the areas of concern that were raised during last year's survey included defective validators (machines that allow commuters to tap out so that they can end their trips), reliability and safety.

“Soon after we received last year's survey results, we made it our mission to ensure that the validating machines work at stations and inside the buses. When a driver is made aware that a validator is not working, they have to immediately drive to the depot so that technicians can attend to it quickly," says Makgoga.

Close to 4 000 commuters surveyed last year were between the ages of 18 and 40 and 52% of all the Rea Vaya passengers used the buses to commute to work daily. Sixty percent of the respondents had said taxis were their alternative mode transport.
